There's really nothing that special here, but an upgraded arsenal of equipment (drone camera, GPS, etc) produces a far more visceral experience. It's confidently and stylishly directed by Wingard ( You're Next, The Guest), with visual references to the spartan 1999 shocker used to deceive and deflect expectation, and the standard scares are plentiful.

Unfortunately, that stroke of marketing genius was much more thrilling than the actual film. Better yet, it does the job without guns or a glimpse of a naked, screaming coed and with a budget (75,000) that couldnt buy George Lucas a proper car. When the film at that point titled The Woods was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 as being a secret Blair Witch Project sequel, the horror community went wild. This time around, there's a bigger budget and more.
